English Burr Horse Chestnut Dining Table 2023
Consecutive Making Number 336.
The dining table of Burr Horse Chestnut is a unique piece made from timber that came from a tree that once stood in the village of Tetford in Lincolnshire.
The tabletop is made from two slabs of burr horse chestnut that are joined along the live edge, this avoids a straight-cut join and allow me to keep more of the beautiful burr.
The joins are held together with internal pegs and for good measure, several butterfly joints (bowties) are spaced on the underside.
There are three cross members which have breather joints that allow the top to breathe across the width of the table top thereby keeping it horizontal and level.
For the finish, the chestnut can either be finished in its natural colour or chemically stained, examples of which can be seen in the photographs. The main photographs show it in its natural colour.
