Ethos
In my practice, I question the confines of the domestic and practical demands of furniture and interpret the human longing for a deeper connection to traditional crafts, contemporary aesthetics and an engagement with natural materials, allied to a story made visceral through the maker’s time and hand.
While primarily focusing on the design’s functionality, I incorporate through my choice of natural materials a timeless feel that will, through use, be complemented with a patina of age.
About
My work has been shown at various exhibitions and shows in the UK and abroad and by my gallery, Connaught Brown of London.
I am a member of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, I was delighted to be awarded a Bespoke Guild Mark Award for an edition of ten chairs in rippled ash, completed in 2017.
Practice
I work closely with Andy Gravelius, who joined me in 2013. Andy brings to his work precise care and attention to detail, coupled with a consistent quality of overview and craftsmanship. Together we have an in-depth knowledge of using traditional and new materials, a clear understanding of technologies and processes and have a profound respect for our craft.
We have the flexibility, when a project demands it, to experiment and innovate and we relish new ideas and the challenge of realising them. We can also work closely with other disciplines such as metal fabricators or upholsterers when relevant.
